Frequently Asked Questions

What is shagreen?

Originally a textured leather made from ray or shark skin, used in Art Deco furniture. On Celeste the drawer fronts are embossed to that texture, which gives a fine pebbled surface rather than a smooth one.

What does cerused mean?

The open grain of the oak is filled with a lighter pigment so the grain pattern stands out against the base colour. It gives the wood depth without darkening it.

What sizes does Celeste come in?

Thirty six and 48 inches.

Is there a version without the shagreen?

Yes, the plain Sunwashed Oak version has the same silhouette and finish without the embossed drawer facings.

Celeste Collection

Celeste is where minimalism meets luxury detailing. The cabinet is cerused Sunwashed Oak, a French contemporary silhouette with the grain filled in a paler tone, and the drawer fronts are faced in embossed shagreen with acrylic and brass toggle knobs. It is the most decorative piece in the catalogue and it is meant to be the only decorative thing in the room.

Two versions, one with the shagreen drawer fronts and one in plain Sunwashed Oak, at 36 and 48 inches.

How to use it

Keep everything else quiet. Plain white or bone tile, simple tapware in brass to match the knobs, and one clean mirror. Against pattern, the shagreen texture is lost and the cabinet just looks busy. Good lighting matters as much: this is a finish that changes as the light moves across it.

Other collections with strong detailing are Lucian and Emmeline.
