Honed marble and limestone are the usual answer: both are soft underfoot and hide water spots better than polished stone. On a shower floor choose a small mosaic so the grout lines give grip, and seal the stone before the first shower.
Is natural stone tile harder to look after than porcelain?+
It asks for two things porcelain does not: a sealer once a year and a pH neutral cleaner instead of vinegar or bleach. That is the whole difference in practice.
Why do the tiles in my order look different from the sample?+
Stone is quarried, not printed, so colour and veining shift between batches and even within one box. Order a sample to set your expectation, then buy the full job at once from the same lot.
Can natural stone go outside in a cold climate?+
Yes, if you pick a dense stone and the right finish. Tumbled travertine, sandblasted marble and slate all handle freeze and thaw. Avoid polished surfaces outdoors: they get slick and they show salt damage.

Real quarried stone, cut into tile: marble, travertine, limestone, slate, granite and quartzite. No two pieces carry the same veining, which is the point. Most of this range is honed or polished 12x12 and 18x18, with larger 24x24 and 24x48 slabs for open floors.
Stone behaves differently from porcelain and that is worth knowing before you buy. It is porous, so it takes a penetrating sealer. It etches if an acid sits on it, which is why a honed surface suits a kitchen better than a polished one. In return you get depth and a surface that can be refinished decades later.
For outdoor work look at tumbled travertine and sandblasted marble, which stay grippy when wet. Indoors, honed marble is the workhorse for bathrooms and limestone gives the same calm look with less veining.
