Platform Mirrors

The Platform mirror puts a shelf across the bottom of the frame, which sounds minor until you try to find somewhere in a small bathroom to put a bottle of hand cream. Over a narrow console or a pedestal sink with no counter, this one piece gives you a mirror and the only horizontal surface in the room.

Round, in 24 and 36 inch diameters, framed in brushed nickel, modern iron or radiant gold. It also works outside a bathroom: in an entryway for keys, or over a dressing table.

Hanging it

Because the shelf carries weight, fix into a stud or use anchors rated well above the mirror's own weight. Centre the glass at eye level, which usually puts the shelf just above the tap. Match the frame finish to the tapware, not to the cabinet.
