Is limestone durable enough for a floor?

Yes for homes, with a sealer and normal care. It is softer than granite, so in a commercial entry or a workshop porcelain is the better call.

How is limestone different from travertine?

Both are calcium based, but travertine forms with visible pits and banding while limestone is denser and more uniform. Limestone reads calmer; travertine reads warmer and more rustic.

What cleaner should I use on limestone?

A pH neutral stone cleaner and water. Vinegar, lemon and bleach based products etch the surface and dull the finish.

Can limestone be used in a bathroom?

Yes. Honed limestone is a common bathroom floor. Seal it before use and keep the shower area in a smaller mosaic format so the floor has grip.

Limestone Floor Tile

Limestone in the quiet greys and beiges that suit a calm floor, honed, tumbled, brushed or lightly textured. The range covers 12x12 through 16x24 and 24x24, with mosaics for smaller spaces.

Limestone has far less movement than marble. Where marble veins, limestone reads as a single soft tone with the occasional shell fossil, which makes it the easier choice in an open plan room where the floor should not compete with anything.

It is a softer stone, so a honed finish and an annual sealer are the sensible setup. In a hallway or kitchen, mats at the door keep grit off the surface and the floor stays even for years.
