Yes, and it is a traditional paving stone. Choose a dense sandstone rated for exteriors, set it on a properly drained base and use a breathable sealer so trapped moisture can escape.

Sandstone is made of compacted sand grains, so it has a visible granular texture and more grip. Limestone is finer and denser, with a smoother, calmer face.
Does sandstone change colour when wet?+
It darkens while wet and returns as it dries, like most porous stone. A sealer reduces the effect but does not remove it.

Sandstone is a quarried sedimentary stone with a visible grain and a warm, sandy colour range that runs from buff and honey through grey and rust.
