What is a laminated edge?+
The fabricator glues a strip of the same stone under the front edge so it reads as a thicker slab. The seam is barely visible on most stones.
Where is 2cm normally used?+
Bathroom vanity tops, shower walls, wall cladding, fireplace surrounds and furniture tops, where the lighter weight makes handling and installation easier.
Is 2cm cheaper than 3cm?+
Usually per square foot, yes, because there is less stone. Fabrication can cost more if the edge is laminated, so compare the finished price rather than the slab price alone.
2cm Slabs
A 2cm slab measures about three quarters of an inch. It weighs less than a 3cm slab, so it is easier to carry up a stairwell and is the usual pick for bathroom vanity tops, wall cladding and table tops. On a kitchen counter, fabricators normally laminate the edge to make it read thicker.
