The room decides the tile. A floor that gets wet needs grip, a backsplash needs to wipe clean, a patio has to survive the weather, and a powder room can take a risk the rest of the house cannot. Start with the space you are working on and see what belongs there.
A best-seller for each space, with plenty on hand for a full room.
Real spaces, by the room they are in.
Marked-down lots that suit the spaces on this page. What you see is what remains of each one.
Kitchen floors take traffic, dropped pans and spills, which favors porcelain and harder stones. A backsplash has an easier life: it only needs to wipe clean, so it is the place for glass, zellige and marble mosaics.
Bathroom floors and walls handle constant moisture. Shower floors need mosaics, both because the many grout lines add grip and because small pieces follow the slope to the drain. A powder room is small, dry and rarely used, which makes it the right place for the tile you would not dare to run through the whole house.
Living room floors are about warmth and continuity. Large-format tiles with fewer grout lines make a room read as bigger, and stone holds up to years of furniture being moved around.
Outdoor surfaces and pool and spa areas need textured, slip-resistant, freeze-resistant material. Tumbled travertine, slate, basalt and outdoor-rated porcelain are the usual answers, with coping to finish a pool edge.
Commercial floors are rated differently from residential ones, and the volumes are larger. See our commercial projects page for specification help and volume pricing.
