Frequently Asked Questions

Does a polished slab still need sealing?

Yes for natural stone. Polishing closes the surface but does not make it waterproof, so marble, quartzite and granite are still sealed after install and resealed every year or two depending on use.

Will a polished marble countertop etch?

Yes. Lemon, vinegar, wine and some cleaners eat into the calcium in marble and leave a dull mark, which shows clearly on a polished surface. Granite and quartzite do not etch this way.

How do I clean a polished surface?

Warm water and a pH neutral stone cleaner. Skip vinegar, bleach and anything abrasive, and wipe spills quickly rather than letting them sit.

Can a polished slab be refinished later?

A fabricator can hone or re polish stone in place. It is dusty work but it is a normal repair, so an etched or scratched top does not have to be replaced.

Polished Slabs

A polished finish is ground and buffed until the surface reflects light, which darkens the color and makes veining stand out. It is the most common finish for kitchen countertops and the easiest to wipe clean, because the closed surface gives dirt less to hold on to.

On marble, a polish shows etching from lemon, wine and cleaners more clearly than a matte surface, so many owners choose honed slabs for heavy cooking kitchens. Every slab is a single natural piece, so pick the one you like from the batch list on the product page, or browse all slabs.
