Marble · Above-Countertop sink

Carrara White marble, a compact round bowl

This round vessel sink is hand-carved from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. The bowl is 15.5 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick, and it is polished inside and out. Carrara's white ground and soft gray veining give each bowl depth and texture, and because every sink is carved from its own piece of stone, no two are identical.

Design

Polished marble, gently curved

The polished finish gives the marble a smooth, reflective surface that brings out the veining and the natural variation in the white. Inside, the bowl is smooth and continuous, with no crevices where soap or mineral deposits can build up. The rim and edges are gently curved, which gives the bowl a soft, contemporary profile and leaves no sharp corner to chip. Each sink is carved individually by stone artisans rather than molded, so the pattern of the gray veins, their spacing and the shade of the white differ from bowl to bowl. That variation is the character of natural Carrara marble, not a flaw.

Where to use it

Sized for a standard vanity

At 15.5 inches across and 6 inches high, the bowl makes good use of the counter without needing a custom vanity. It suits a powder room or guest bath where space is tight, and it is still roomy enough for everyday washing in a primary bath. Set on top of the counter, the bowl stands out as the focal point of the vanity, and the white and gray marble sits easily in traditional, transitional and modern bathrooms. The 4 cm drain hole is standard and connects to typical drain fittings. The bowl is made without an overflow, which keeps its inner surface plain and uninterrupted.

Installation

A level counter and a tall faucet

The bowl sits above the counter, so the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry solid marble, which is heavy for its size. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the bowl is set in silicone. Because the sink has no overflow, the drain fitting should be a type made for sinks without one. The rim stands 6 inches above the counter, so the faucet needs to reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before the counter is drilled.

Made to order

Made to order by GMSTONE

GMSTONE makes this bowl to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. For a project that needs a different diameter, shape or finish, GMSTONE can make the sink to custom dimensions. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the vanity.

Care

Carrara White is a polished calcite marble. It is a porous stone, so acidic liquids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch or discolor it, and sealing helps keep stains at the surface. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
