Travertine · Above-Counter sink

Light beige travertine, a conical bowl

This vessel sink is carved from a single block of light beige travertine quarried in Turkey. Its conical form widens from a narrow base to a 16 inch round rim, and it stands 6 inches high. The light beige pairs easily with contemporary, modern and traditional bathrooms. Each piece has its own veining and coloration, so no two sinks are identical.

Design

A cone carved in travertine

The conical shape is more than styling. It balances a strong silhouette with everyday use: the curved interior slopes lead water to the drain and make the bowl simple to clean, with no harsh textures to trap residue. The surface is honed and filled, a smooth matte finish that resists water spotting and fingerprints and stays easy to wipe. Travertine has been used in bathrooms for centuries, valued for the warmth it brings and for the organic, spa-like calm it gives a room. Subtle variations in tone, natural inclusions and veining carry the mark of handwork. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone.

Where to use it

A raised bowl on the vanity

Mounted above the counter, the sink adds a layer to the vanity: the bowl stands apart from the countertop, and the taper keeps its footprint small. At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, the proportions feel substantial without crowding a powder room, and the bowl is roomy enough for daily use in a primary bath. The design reads as calm rather than fussy, so it belongs in a minimalist room as well as a more ornate one. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard plumbing fittings.

Installation

Set on a flat counter

Solid stone is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong. A drain hole is cut in the counter to match the 4 cm drain, and the bowl is set in silicone. Because the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. The taper means the base is narrower than the rim, so the drain hole should be centered carefully. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut, and use a professional installer for a clean, level fit.

Made to order

Made to order by GMSTONE

GMSTONE makes this sink to order on one of two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Both are the same 16 by 6 inch honed and filled bowl. GMSTONE can also carve the cone in a custom size or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the counter.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as vinegar and lemon can etch its honed surface. Sealing preserves its protection, and how often it is resealed depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
