Valencia travertine, honed into an oval
This oval vessel sink is handcrafted in Turkey from Valencia travertine, a natural stone with a warm blend of beige, gold and soft yellow tones running through naturally occurring veining. It measures 16 inches wide, 21 inches long and 6 inches high, and its finish is honed and filled. Every sink is carved individually, so each one is a different piece of stone with its own pattern, and it ages with character rather than wearing out.
Design
Matte stone with filled pores
The honed and filled surface gives the bowl a matte look and a smooth feel. Travertine forms with tiny natural pores; on this sink they are filled during the handcrafting process, which leaves fewer places for water and residue to settle. The honed face also keeps mineral deposits and water spots far less visible than they would be on a glossy surface. The edges are smooth and curved, with no sharp corners to work around during cleaning. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick. Valencia has moderate color variation, so the balance of beige, gold and brown changes from bowl to bowl.

Where to use it
The center of the vanity
Set above the counter, the bowl becomes the focal point of the vanity. The warm stone tones sit well in modern, contemporary, traditional and transitional bathrooms, and they work with white vanities, natural wood or marble countertops. The sink can also be undermounted when a flush counter line is preferred. The standard 4 cm drain opening fits typical bathroom plumbing without modification.

Installation
Pick vessel or undermount
Decide the mounting before the counter is cut. As a vessel, the bowl sits on a flat, level counter over a drain hole cut to line up with the 4 cm drain, set in silicone, and it needs a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet that reaches over the rim. As an undermount, the counter needs a cutout sized to the bowl, with the sink supported from below. Either way, solid travertine is heavy, so the counter and cabinet must be sturdy, and professional installation is recommended.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and filling reduces that porosity without removing it. Acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch the honed surface, and periodic resealing protects it; how often depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
