Which blues come in subway tile?
The blues here run from soft and pale to deep and saturated. Seafoam and Powder are the pale ceramic blues, Ocean Drift is a muted matte blue, and Ege is a satin blue glass. At the deep end, Marza Cobalt is a glossy cobalt ceramic, Haiku Sapphire a sapphire glass, and Furstenburg Teal a glossy teal in glazed terracotta. Sirena Sky and Peggy Blue fill the brighter middle of the range as glossy glazed terracotta.
Ceramic options
Ceramic gives the widest choice. Seafoam comes glossy in 3x6 and 3x9, Powder glossy in 3x6, and Ocean Drift matte in 3x9, all 3/8 inch thick, with listings for shower walls, interior walls, backsplashes and light floors. Marza Cobalt, a glossy ceramic in 4x12, is a backsplash piece. More subway tile in every color is in subway tiles.
Glass options in blue
Glass subway tile gives blue a translucent face. Ege is a satin blue glass in 3x9 and Aegean a matte blue glass in 2x6, both 3/8 inch, and both go on shower walls and backsplashes. Blue Shimmer and Haiku Sapphire are slim 2x6 glass subway mosaics on sheets, and Vague Blue is a glossy glass subway mosaic in a pattern; these three are for backsplashes and interior walls. More glass is in glass tiles.
Glazed terracotta and textured marble
Glazed terracotta puts a clay body under the blue glaze. Peggy Blue, Free Spirit, Furstenburg Teal and Sirena Sky come glossy in 2 3/4x9 3/4 at 3/4 inch thick; Peggy Blue and Free Spirit can go on shower walls, while Furstenburg Teal and Sirena Sky are backsplash pieces. Ocean has a leather finish in 2 1/4x7 9/16, for shower walls and backsplashes. In stone, Patchwork is a textured blue marble subway in 4x12 with interior floor, shower floor, shower wall and backsplash listings.
Which blue subway tiles go where?
The tiles fall into three groups by room. For shower walls there are Seafoam, Powder and Ocean Drift ceramic, Ege and Aegean glass, Ocean, Peggy Blue and Free Spirit glazed terracotta, and Patchwork marble, which also goes on the shower floor. Seafoam, Powder and Ocean Drift have a light floor listing too. Marza Cobalt, Furstenburg Teal and Sirena Sky are for backsplashes only, and the glass mosaics for backsplashes and interior walls. Glossy, matte, satin or leather?
Four finishes appear here. Glossy covers Seafoam, Powder, Marza Cobalt, Vague Blue and the glazed terracotta Peggy Blue, Free Spirit, Furstenburg Teal and Sirena Sky. Matte covers Ocean Drift ceramic and Aegean glass. Satin is the Ege glass, and leather is the Ocean glazed terracotta. Patchwork marble has a textured face.
Zellige look, beveled and shaded blues
Blue is where texture and shading show most clearly on this page. The supplier describes Seafoam and Powder as glossy ceramic with a zellige look, and the Seafoam 3x9 has a beveled edge. Haiku Sapphire and Vague Blue are glass subway tiles with beveled edges, and Vague Blue runs through deep gray-blue shades. Blue Shimmer moves from indigo to turquoise across the sheet, and Marza Cobalt is a vivid blue glaze with earthy brown accents, made in Spain. The glazed terracotta pieces in 2 3/4x9 3/4 are slim, brick-like rectangles.
From thinnest to thickest
Thickness runs from thin glass mosaics to thick clay. Blue Shimmer and Haiku Sapphire are about 1/4 to 5/16 inch, Marza Cobalt about 0.29 inch, and the Seafoam, Powder and Ocean Drift ceramic and the Ege and Aegean glass are 3/8 inch. Ocean glazed terracotta is 9/16 inch, and Peggy Blue, Free Spirit, Furstenburg Teal and Sirena Sky are 3/4 inch.
