Frequently Asked Questions

How far does a marble wall mount sink stick out from the wall?

Projection runs from 12 to 21 inches. The 12x18, 12x20 and 14x18 basins project 12 to 14 inches, a few longer pieces such as the 13x25, 14x24 and 15x33 stay under 16 inches, and most sinks 24 inches long or more project 16 to 21 inches. In a narrow powder room where the sink faces the door, a 12 to 14 inch projection keeps the walkway clear. In a main bathroom used daily, 16 inches or more gives a larger bowl and more deck around it.

What length of double wall mount marble sink do two people need?

Doubles here run 52, 53, 60, 72 and 80 inches along the wall and project 18 to 21 inches. A 52 or 60 inch double fits a wall that cannot take more, but the two basins sit closer together. When two people use the sink at the same time, a 72 or 80 inch double gives both people a basin with space to the side, so the length of the wall usually decides it.

How tall is the stone on these sinks?

Most pieces stand 4 to 12 inches tall. A 4 or 5 inch piece looks like a thin shelf of marble on the wall and keeps the profile light in a small room. A 10 or 12 inch piece has the visual weight of a carved block. Bowl depth is a separate figure, and each product description lists it.

Do these sinks come with faucet holes?

Faucet holes vary by model. A Calacatta Viola 12x20 arrives with no faucet hole, which leaves the faucet to the wall above the basin. Others have holes in the deck, and a Calacatta Viola 16x32 has side faucet holes. Deciding between a wall-mounted and a deck-mounted faucet first narrows the list quickly, since the hole layout is set when the stone is carved.

Should a black marble wall mount sink be fluted or plain?

Both exist here: a fluted Nero Marquina at 20x48 and a plain polished black marble at 17x30. Fluting on a dark stone shows as thin lines of light across a black face, which adds texture without adding color. A plain front shows the white veining as one continuous pattern. If the stone's veining is what drew you to it, plain keeps it whole; if the room is mostly flat surfaces, fluting gives it relief.

Wall mount basin or vessel bowl?

A vessel bowl is only the basin. It needs a vanity, a console or a stone top to rest on, and the bowl stands above that surface. A wall mount stone basin brings its own surface with it: the deck around the bowl, the faucet area and often the backsplash come out of the same block, so nothing else is needed to hold it up.

A few listings here are titled wall mount vessel sinks, meaning a bowl-shaped basin made to hang on the wall instead of sitting on a counter. If a vanity is staying in the room, marble vessel sinks are the easier choice.

Is a floating marble sink the same as a wall mount sink?

Yes. Floating marble sink is another name for the same piece: the basin hangs on the wall with open floor under it, so it appears to float. Some listings here use the word floating in the title, others say wall mount or wall mounted.

Reading the three dimensions

Most listings give three figures, W, L and H. W is how far the sink projects from the wall, and L is the run along the wall. W runs from 12 to 21 inches in this range, and L from 12 inches on the smallest corner unit to 80 inches on the longest doubles. On these listings H is the overall height of the stone, mostly 4 to 12 inches.

Two sculptural pieces break the pattern with 24 inches of stone height: a Polar White triangle at 12x18 and an Imperial White and Tundra Gray design at 18x32.

The footprints that come up most

16x24 is the size that repeats most often, with stone heights from 4 to 12 inches. Below it sit 12x18, 12x20 and 14x18 basins for powder rooms, and above it 16x30, 16x36, 18x36 and 20x48 for a single basin with usable counter on either side of the bowl. Wall-hung doubles start at 52 inches of run and step through 53, 60 and 72 to 80, with projections from 18 to 21 inches.

Fluted front or plain front

Fluting cuts vertical channels into the face of the sink, and on some models, such as the Green Levanto, the channels wrap three sides. The grooves throw a row of shadow lines, most visible when light comes from one side. A plain polished front keeps the veining in one unbroken sheet, which suits a heavily figured stone.

Carrara White comes fluted in sizes from a 12x20 reeded basin to a 72 inch double. Calacatta Viola has a fluted U form and fluted vanities at 20x55 and 20x56. Among the darker stones, there is a Nero Marquina at 20x48 and a Toros Black at 16x24. Rosso Levanto, Green Levanto and Calacatta Gold also come fluted. Ribbed fronts, a related carved texture, appear on New York, Carrara White and Sirius Black.

Backsplash and hidden-drain designs

A backsplash model has a raised stone panel at the rear, carved from the same block, so the wall behind the faucet is marble, not paint or tile. Calacatta Viola offers it in the most sizes, from an 18x24 basin through 16x30, 16x32 and 21x34 to a 20x55 vanity and an 80 inch double. Carrara White has it at 18x36 and 18x48. Rosso Levanto, Bursa Gray and Calacatta Verde add warmer and grayer options, at 16x30, 16x27 and 16x34.

Hidden-drain designs keep the drain opening out of sight, so the bowl looks like a clean slab of stone with no visible hole. White marble has them at 20x40 and 16x43, and Tundra Gray at 20x48. Calacatta Viola versions add a towel bar, a storage shelf or a drawer.

Corner wall mount sinks

A corner wall mount sink fills the angle where two walls meet, which leaves the straight runs of wall free for a door swing or a towel rail. The corner units here are all Calacatta Viola: a polished 12x12, which is the smallest corner unit, a ribbed 20x20, a hand-carved 16x24 with 4 inches of stone height, and a fluted 16x16 corner sink with an 8 inch backsplash. More of that stone is gathered in Calacatta Viola sinks.

Marble colors for wall mount sinks

White stones and white with gray veining make up most of the collection, and black is the next largest group. Calacatta Viola, a white ground with plum to burgundy veining, has the most designs. Carrara White is the softer white with fine gray veining, and New York is a white marble with gray movement. Tundra Gray and Bursa Gray are the quiet grays, Verde Antico is a green and white stone, and Rosso Levanto is a wine-red marble with white veins.

On the dark side, Toros Black is a deep black marble with bold veining, joined by Nero Marquina, Sirius Black, Adriatic Black and Alexandrette Black, gathered with the other dark basins in black marble sinks. Smaller groups come in Calacatta Gold, Calacatta Verde, Calacatta Olivia, Polar White, Green Levanto and Bluestone.

Polished or honed

Most of these sinks are polished, which gives the deepest color. A smaller group is honed, including a Calacatta Viola 14x18 and a black 20x48, which trades shine for a soft, low-glare surface. For warmer, textured stone in the same format, see travertine wall mount sinks, and every marble basin we carry, mounted or not, is in marble sinks.
